Scientific Notation Project- Planet Discovery
How can you relate scientific notation in a way that will interest your students? I say research and discover planets in your solar system!
Students will enjoy studying a specific planet with questions that align with their planet.
Allow each student to pick a planet that interests them the most (I look up a video on the eight planets to give students background knowledge)
-Each student can get a packet with tailored questions about the solar system and their specific planet.
-Students will research their planet online and answer questions that involve scientific notation.
-Students will write numbers in scientific notation, standard form, and solve using operations with scientific notation.
-Students finish by creating a poster or 3d model on their planet, or all eight planets, and include new facts they have learned
Includes:
-Seventeen standard form to scientific notation form questions.
-Seven large numbers to re-write in scientific notation for EACH planet.
-Eleven small numbers to re-write in scientific notation that work with their planet.
-Fifteen operations with scientific notation.
-Five-word problems for each planet.
-Standards and answer keys for each planet.
Please review and let me know what your students thought of the project
